Guidance for Newbie :o) Empty VLCD and Alcohol

Post by Admin Fri Feb 28, 2014 1:24 am

Hi Tanddie, slimmer mikey is quite right, both have carbs and will affect Ketosis unfortunately. Just to give a little more info on consuming alcohol and Ketosis. We have never had a situation of concern or problem informed to us, but we wouldn't be doing our job of care if we didn't mention the following statement.

"Under no circumstances should alcohol be consumed whilst following a VLCD plan which is low in calories and restricts sugar and carbohydrates. When in Ketosis alcohol can be extremely dangerous and in extreme cases even cause death or long term health conditions. If intending to drink alcohol it is imperative that you come off a Ketogenic Diet and out of Ketosis. As a minimum we suggest following a healthy eating plan at least 48 hours before drinking alcohol."

Teacher bit over Smile

Hope that helps a little and is not intended to worry you x

Anything with enough carbs in will knock you out of ketosis. It would depend on brand of lager, how much you had of each drink. Just google nutrition info for your lager and wine and compare carb content per 100ml. Chances are both will knock you out of ketosos unless you only have a sip/mouthful. Try to resist Smile

Guidance for Newbie :o) Empty and another question

Post by Tanddie Fri Feb 21, 2014 8:31 am

OK - didn't realise Carrott was not on the list - but only had one or two anyhow!

Another Question....

I know that the answer is neither BUT which is going to have the least impact Lager or Wine?

Guidance for Newbie :o) Empty No Carrots on a VLCD

Post by Admin Thu Feb 20, 2014 7:38 pm

Hi Tanddie,
Great weight loss, your routine is correct, make sure you keep your water level up as didn't mention how much. 2.25 litres is the minimum, try to slowly build up to about 3 litres if possible.

Noticed you mention carrots. These are a no no on a VLCD as contain more carbs, really stick to the permitted veggies list given on the plan. It may be that you are reaching a milks ketogenic condition only due to their inclusion

You may have 200g or 50/80 kcals of permitted veggies each day. Jalepenos are generally okay as form of green pepper.

As you've done before you know it's a gradually process, but should be feeling less physically hunger shortly, the cravings and mental hunger usually disappear as you progress and grow strength from your accounts and detoxing from carbs and sugars.

Don't give in, drink the water and stop the carrots Smile

Hi

2nd time trying the VLC diet, did it several years ago and lost a stone, looking to lose about 1.5 stones this time.

About 1 week in and lost around 7-8 lbs

At the moment, having a shake in the morning, soup at dinner and chilli/s.pie/spag bol at night and a bar at some point.

Have added some jalapeono's, raw carrott, raddish and picked cabbage to the meals but still feeling hungry!!! I know its all in the mind!!

Anyone any guidance on the amount of greens so that I don't spoil things?

Going through the feeling cold stage at the moment so I know things are happening!!!

T
