ALL ABOUT KETOSIS Empty Reply Acai Powder

Post by Admin Fri Oct 23, 2009 5:38 pm

Hi Jackieg1907
Thanks for letting us know the comp. Just be a little careful, not sure if you are taking 1 or 2 scoops but that does seem a lot of fat for each scoop although looked up and only states the healthy omega fats, strange would have assumed being fruit that more calories would have come from sugars. Citric acid is also added and this is known to affect ketosis.

Please note that the statement they make does mean that no test or studies have been done on the effects of this product and it can not back up any information it provides.
* These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Suggest you start with one scoop. Please let us know how you get on....... are you using for the "The Natural Research Council recommends 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. One scoop of Power Scoop is equivalent to over 3 servings and is a great way to supplement your healthy diet." or to assist with weight loss?

ALL ABOUT KETOSIS Empty Acai powder

Post by jackieg1907 Fri Oct 23, 2009 9:02 am

Thanks very much. I will let you know how I get on with it.
The make I've bought is Sambazon. The instructions are 1-2 scoops / day, 3g per scoop. 19 calories per scoop, 14 from Fat. Of the 3g, 1.5 is fat, 1g carbohydrate - sugars 0g. It's made of frieze dried organic acai and citric acid.
It tastes OK if mixed with sweetener and milk, fruity chocolate (almost!).

ALL ABOUT KETOSIS Empty Reply Acai Powder

Post by Admin Thu Oct 22, 2009 5:44 pm

Hi Jackieg1907
Hoping to answer your question, please remember that Ketosis is very personal affect and each person has there own level of carbs / sugars that break ketosis. Therefore what one person can take, another may be unable to.
As far as we are aware Acai berry powder is simply picked acai berries with the pulp removed then frozen and dehydrated all within 24 hours. None here have personally used this as a product and therefore we can neither confirm or recommend the use with our products. We do understand from information that it does contain Vitamin C as you have mentioned and also essential fatty acids and is obviously a Fruit. A little essential fatty acid is acceptable on a VLCD and promotes a healthy gall-bladder but due to the high level fo Fruit we feel it could affect Ketosis dependant on how much of the product is required.
Look at the nutritional content and try to work out the carbs or sugars included in the recommended daily amount. If wishing to try alongside your programme confirm you are in ketosis, start to use and then test ketosis daily. Ensure you do not add any other food sources whilst testing. You may just get away with it, but if you start to notice any difference stop using immediately.
study Tip: The WC products are lower in carbs and sugars than Total products and if using these products you may have a little more flexibility.
Hope this has hepled

ALL ABOUT KETOSIS Empty Re: ALL ABOUT KETOSIS

I've bought some acai powder, didn't realise it would be mostly Vitamin C, is this going to prevent ketosis?
Many thanks

ALL ABOUT KETOSIS Empty ALL ABOUT KETOSIS

Post by Admin Thu Oct 01, 2009 6:23 pm

WHAT ARE KETONES?
"Ketones are a normal and efficient source of fuel and energy for the human body. They are produced by the liver from fatty acids, which result from the breakdown of the bodies’ fat in response to the absence of glucose/sugar." Here’s the technical bit …."In a Ketogenic diet, the tiny amounts of glucose required for some select functions can be met by consuming a minimum amount of carbs - or can be manufactured in the liver from PROTEIN. When your body is producing ketones, and using them for fuel, this is called "ketosis"." As the body can not store Protein it will convert any extra into carbs which may then be used for instant energy.

HOW WILL KETOSIS HELP ME LOSE WEIGHT?
Most weight loss diets work by restricting calorie intake, so you lose weight, some of that weight is fat and some of it is lean muscle tissue. Losing muscle means a slowed metabolism, which then makes losing weight more difficult and gaining it back all too easy. Ketosis will help you to lose your FAT and protects your muscle tissue.
"Being in Ketosis means that your body's primary source of energy is your fat (in the form of ketones). When you consume adequate protein as well, there's no need for the body to break down its muscle tissue. Once Ketosis well established it also tends to accelerate fat loss, as once the liver converts fat to ketones, it can't be converted back to fat, and so is excreted" Hence the need for so much water.

IS KETOSIS DANGEROUS?
"Being in ketosis by following a low carbohydrate diet is NOT considered dangerous for a generally healthy person. The human body was designed to use ketones very efficiently as fuel in the absence of glucose. However, the word ketosis is often confused with a similar word, Ketoacidosis. ("Ketoacidosis is a dangerous condition for diabetics and the main element is ACID not ketones) Diabetics can follow a ketogenic diet to lose fat & weight ... but they must be closely monitored by their health care provider, and blood sugars need to be kept low and stable"

HOW DO I TEST MY KETONES
If you wish to test your Ketones at home you can purchase the test strips from our webstore or at most pharmacies, they are usually kept with the diabetic supplies. In some stores they're kept behind the counter, so if you don't see them on the shelf, just ask the pharmacist.
They are urine-testing strips; also called Ketostix / Ketur or just ketone sticks ... they are small plastic strips that have a little absorptive pad on the end. This contains a special chemical that will change colour in the presence of ketones in the urine. The strips may change varying shades of pink to purple, or may not change colour at all. But the container will have a scale on the label, with blocks of colour for you to compare the strip after a certain time lapse, usually 15 seconds. Most folks simply hold a strip in the flow of urine. You should aim for the patch to change to a light pink, if it goes too dark you are not drinking sufficient water and should start increasing your water immediately, otherwise you could start to dehydrate and suffer an uncomfortable feeling, headaches, dizziness, nausea etc. If the strip remains beige you are most probably not yet in ketosis, or not quiet showing on the scale. It can take different people varying times to reach ketosis, but for most it is usually around day 4 of the diet.
The chemical reagent is very sensitive to moisture, including what's in the air. It's important to keep the lid of the container tightly closed at all times, except for when you're getting a strip to take a reading. Make sure your fingers are dry before you go digging in! They also have an expiry date, so make note of this when you purchase the strips, once opened, they have a shelf-life of about 6 months -- you may wish to write the date you opened on the label for future reference.
The body is very fickle and therefore Ketosis may fluctuate, or you may not even show on the strip as pink, but as long as you are not hungry, feeling well and are continuing to lose weight you are receiving the benefits of ketosis. You may be drinking sufficient water which is diluting your Ketones or your body has found a productive use for them internally. The best guide to ketosis is your hunger, if it Ketosis you should not feel physical hunger if using your products at regular intervals.

KETOSIS WARNING
If you eat extra food to your allowance, a small piece of fruit, a diet coke, chunk of cheese, you could kick yourself out of Ketosis and make your diet so so much harder. Hunger could return, you may lose the sense of well being; your weight loss will slow down or even stop, your body will hold on to water and therefore your weight could even rise. It then takes a few days to get back into Ketosis and “Fat Burning” and apart from that you will feel disappointed and let down and it could kick you completely off the diet.
We cannot stress enough, the TWO RULES you must follow to be successful on a VLCD
Drink a minimum of 2.5 Litres of water – 4L is advised Rolling Eyes Don’t Eat Anything – Not a morsel Evil or Very Mad and you will lose weight quickly and safely – approximately 1 stone per month.
