Green/White Veg and Salad Empty Low GI/GL Vegetables and Salad Rule

Post by Admin Sat Mar 02, 2013 6:41 pm

Hi Toyah, the easiest way I have always remembered what veggies or salad to consume is that anything that grows underground, for example carrots, turnips, parsnips, potatoes, will contain more carbohydrates and therefore on a VLCD are a no no. Then anything that grows nearer the sun for example, peas and sweetcorn are generally a higher sugar content and therefore on a VLCD are also a no no.

The best selection of veggies and salad to consume most of the time are those that grow along the ground, these are generally the lower gi /gl foods that you can eat lots of. They just happen to be generally green and white, so many call them the green & white selection.

Some clients will adopt a diet that is free from potatoes, rice, bread or pasta after following a VLCD to keep their carb levels controlled naturally and help keep a check on their weight for maintenance. It is then a good idea to include one or two portions of these higher sugar or carbs on your meal throughout the day to provide slow releasing energy that won't cause your insulin levels to peak and fall continuously.

Its great that you asked by the way, its understanding the small points that will help you make the right choices for your plan, knowing why you are making the choices makes your diet plan more interesting and easier to follow and will help you maintain your weight once at target.

Hi Toyah,

We believe that its only white and green veggies and salad items as they carry the lower carbohydrate levels than many other coloured types.

Hope this helps
